Dear Diary,
Another week just breezed past.
This week, children did a very interesting craft for Chinese New Year. Wanted to do something different this year. We have done CNY greeting cards, cherry blossoms painting, lanterns, fireworks, paper fans etc in the past. Wanted to do something we have not done before.
After much racking of the brains, a Chinese hand drum appeared in my thoughts.
A small research started.
Google.
Search search search.
Ahah!
Perfect Craft.
We started on Monday. Before long, we saw the craft taking place over the next few days. Children were tracing the Mandarin characters, beading, pasting and decorating. The end result was just awesome, to say the least.
Correction : I meant, AWESOME. (Font 100)
Shared with the children the right brain way of writing the Chinese characters (for Pinocchio and Donald). Yup, the Vision of an Aeroplane and the Story of a Busy Bee.
Grin.
Something interesting happened this week that is worthy of mention during our family dinner. Was pleasantly surprised, and humbled at the same time, to receive an application from a lady with a Masters degree in Early Childhood for a teaching position in our school. Called her to thank her for her very kind interest. She shared that she was the former Principal of REAL Kids kindergarten.
(Please pause for message to sink in)
Oh Wow. Seriously. What an honour. Shared with her that she would probably not be fulfilled being a class teacher in our cozy little school after her experience of heading a big international school and suggested she would better fit in in our school in America. Haha.
Teacher Jessie (T. Lynn's sister) runs a very respectable and successful school in California. She expressed excitement, thanked yours truly for her honesty (Yeah yeah, let's not waste time. I mean, exactly how do we have TWO principals in ONE school? How would that even work? We would be umm, fighting like the kids. Oh, I can hear it already ... My idea is better. No, mine. No, mine. I say, mine. No, yours is stuuupeed ... (Ooops!) It wouldn't end. Haha)
At the end of our conversation, she said, I hope we can be friends.
Friends?
Why, of course.
For sure.
Would be delighted to be your friend.
It is after all GETTING TO KNOW YOU theme this week. :D We can't just ask the children to practise getting to know your friends, and be friends with one another, and we adults don't. Right?
So here goes ...
I am pleased to meet you, my friend. Now let's sit down and have a cocktail and see whose idea is really the better one. (raise one eyebrow, if one can)
Huh, bet it's mine (smug expression).
Chuckle.
XOXO
